Rifle sling attachments
September 19th, 2010
My granddad gave me a nice (great condition) .223. Great rifle, but it doesn’t have a shoulder sling, or does metal eyelits to attach one to. I don’t want to ruin the wood stock and drill any aftermarket parts because I want to keep it original and don’t want to devalue the rifle. The rifle has a clean almost new bore and looks new for being 35 years old.
Suggestions?

My Zeiss Conquest Binoculars suck
September 17th, 2010
My Zeiss Conquest Binoculars suck. I bought a nice “looking” Zeiss Conquest 12×45 binoculars from a optics auctions. The binoculars look spectacular, but the image quality in the left tube is out of focus. Kind of like if you were wearing reading glasses with huge diopter. The right tube is perfectly fine. The tubes will not focus together, nor diopter adjustment do improve image in the left tube. The image looks same for both eyes (if I look with one eye at a time). So when I look through both tubes and align them together, I still can see distant objects but I have discomfort, clearly because of out-of focus or whatever in left tube. I emailed and called Zeiss, left a message but no reply. What can be wrong or can I do anything to fix my new hunting binoculars? Thank you,

Hog hunting different from deer
September 16th, 2010
Hog hunting different from deer I must say. Hello all, new hog hunter from Ga. checking in and thank you for the invitation. My question is I am primarily a deer hunter, and I found a nice place that I can go hog hunting. It’s river bottoms with lot’s of pine stands in South Georgia. It’s not possible to bait them can not bait them in because of the heavy brush and swamp. I have never killed a hog and do not even no where or how to begin to hunt them?…I don’t know what to do, when to do it, or how? There are a lot of hogs out there and I have seen some HUGE boars. The hunting land backs up to a 10,000 acre plot of land that I can go on. What do I do? Thanks, Tom Sep 2010
Bow hunter needs advice on deer
September 15th, 2010
I was out doing a little scouting after work and I got to one of my favorite spots sitting on the edge of a field. Then out of nowhere 12 whitetail deer ran right into the middle of the field 200+ yards away. All my calls last year were not effective so I can not lure them in under 200+ yards? I have tree stand and a nice hunting blind that I bought and built (blind) this year. Any ideas on bringing them in closer?..because it’s not like you can sit in the middle of the field in a blind? Any ideas for this new bow hunter?????

Winchester 70 featherweight or Ruger 77 for a Big Game hunting rifle enough? I have been looking at the Model 70 Featherweight and the Ruger 77 CR MK II COMPACT. I have been looking around at hunting rifles for deer hunting in open fields and possibly thick brush, I have found a caliber but I have not really found a gun. The rifle will be used by my 15 year old grandson, he has shot lots of guns but I want to get him a gun that fits him now but he will have for a life time.
Thanks all and I am leaning towards the M70 Featherweight in 7mm/08. But if any hunters on this blog have any suggestion or advice it will be well received. Kind regards, Jeff Sep 2010
Moose wolf hunt combo
September 13th, 2010
It looks like I’ll finally get to hunt my favorite big game. I will be going Moose hunting this year. Also, I have already confirmed a caribou/wolf package combo type hunt. My 300. wsm will obviously be used for the moose hunt and I was wondering I should bring/use the 270. win for the wolf and caribou or just use the 300.wsm?. The 270. win in theory id good enough because I’ve used it on moose in the past, but concerned the using it for predator hunting because the wolf hunt probably will be at a distance . I am more then certain the 270. win is a good long range gun but a wolf is really strong and at long range I don’t know if the 270 will do. The 300. wsm is a good long range gun as well. Which one. And i look at ballistics for the 270. win and the 140. grain seems to be better in every way compared to the 150. grain. Why is this??

Wild Boar Hunting in Europe
September 12th, 2010
Wild Boar Hunting hunting in Europe video trailer. You got to love how the Europeans make their hog hunting videos so elegant. Although, there was an excellent running shot 3/4 way through. Admin |
