Hunting just for food
September 4th, 2010
Hello all I am new to this blog and thought id ask a question about hunting boar. The main reason I want to start hunting is I live on a ranch in Midland Texas and things economy is a bit tough and I have the opportunity to hunt wild boar/pigs on the land. Free. My main reasoning to get involved in hunting, primarily for food and my questions is for hunters. First, what would you bring with you when hog hunting? Second, do I need a hunting license to hunt on private property? What time of year do people normally hunt hog during? Or more so, when NOT to hunt hogs? Also, any good websites to visit about all the hog/boar hunting equipment/ gear needed? Any other insight would be great.
Finally, as mentioned I am on a budget and just need the bare essentials! Thank you in advance for any information, Mark, Midland Tx

Not that I am pointing out the obvious in the the post title but it’s true. Let me explain for those who do not understand the importance of hunting because Hunters pay their fees and licenses to the State to gain permission to hunt on public land. The States and Federal Governments have protected and harvested forest land this it manages. Our government spends a lot of our tax dollars to research via our hunting license fees to determine how much wild game can be harvested to better the eco-environment and animal food-chain.
So why is it that so many people hate hunters and the idea of hunting?…lack of information to get a better understanding? Hypocrisy: Why can a person comment on anything negative about hunting or hunters but have no problem ordering a hamburger or a steak? These same people refuse to even research on what happens in a slaughter house or how their dinner meat is even produced. I honestly think thy think we hunters are thrill killers! Real hunters who pay their fees know the importance of harvesting animals therefore they abide by all rules. If they do not they know that there are huge expensive fines to pay. They also know they have a reputation to uphold as a hunter. Rant off! Thanks for the invite.. Larry Aug 2010
A new hunters question
August 18th, 2010
Okay, where to start? I just turned 16 and all my friends hunt and brag about it in school and well my father has not been around for some time now and my only Uncle thinks hunting is cruel and thinks guns are dangerous and for fools. I have almost no experience with hunting accept my gamo pellet rifle. I have shot a 410 shotgun, and a .22lr. My mother is tired of me bugging her about getting a hunting license and has agreed this year I can get one. My question is where to start after that? I have a good budget for a deer hunting rifle (Remington 700 BDL) and a scope, but I don’t know how to start process on where to hunt? ..Thanks for any advice.
