Terriers good squirrel hunting dogs?
September 26th, 2010
Hello all and thanks for the invitation. I’ll jump right in and ask a question. I have a Jack Russel terrier that is a great squirrel and small game or varmint dog. Jake will trees squirrels better than any other I have ever seen and a popular envy of all my hunting buds, and many ask if I’ll ever breed him because they want a pup. So I am considering breeding Jake to produce excellent varmint squirrel hunting dogs. Are there other breeds that are known for their squirrel hunting or is Jake just a fluke? Anyone care to share a website that I can read up on the different breeds?
Terrier Terror

It’s been over 20 years since the lat time I went turkey hunting and gave my shotgun to my boy back then. Well, this year I going to give it another go because I just retired. I do have a few shotguns for upland birds, what is a good type of shotgun to use for turkeys? I understand opinions will very and be somewhat different, but I have no idea really because it’s been so many years. What should I look for, and what should I avoid?
Thanks,
Jerry

Arrow recommendation for bowfishing? I am using and older compound bow given to me by my grandfather, but the and the arrow rest on the bow has been broken for years. My winter project is to turn the bow into a bowfishing rig and was hoping it would be possible to do so. Not only am I not sure on what rest to get, but if it’s worth the time and money to covert this old bow? I want to get a whisker bisket but there are no screw holes for a rest. Am I stuck with having to get another adhesive? Thanks,

Small game varmint hunting round?
September 23rd, 2010
The best Small game varmint hunting round? I am hunting squirel, rabbit, muskrat, groundhog. I was seriously thinking the 17s because they are the most accurate. So which is better .17HM2 or the .17HMR? I have also read that the .22 WMR does a too much damage to the meat and it’s more of a coyote round.

Catfishing in late September
September 22nd, 2010
Catfishing in late September has been a bust! My brother and I been hitting the water hard this month catfishing and haven’t caught a single catfish. We have tried worms, doughbait, livers, and even chumming the area and still no catfish. We’ve been fishing in the bayous, rivers, and the lakes. Where should we fish for them in lakes and bayous? What bait? What time of day? We have been in evening and morning? What are we doing wrong?
Thanks,
Jeff

When to start hunting my dog?
September 21st, 2010
I would like my three month old Springer Spaniel to be my bird dog someday. So my question is at what age should I start training for him to hunt, and should I train him myself or seek out a professional service? Why? Because I am also new to bird hunting and don’t feel confident or have enough experience myself. I have always been a big game hunter but have always wanted to bird hunt. I just don’t have anyone to do it with, so I got my own hunting buddy. Also, is it possible to completely train him at home?

A good ranch and hunting rifle?
September 20th, 2010
Hello:
I just turned 17 and I live on a cattle ranch in Wyoming. I am not a hunter due to school and work around the ranch that keeps me busy but I’ve been around guns most of my life and used .22’s and a 12 gauge shotguns for pest control. Now it’s time to get some hunting in and wanted to know what would you recommend as a high powered hunting rifle? I’ve reading ans researching a lot online and got it down to two rifles after many hours of research. The first one is the Remington 7mm magnum or a Winchester Black Shadow 30-06.
My needs for a riffle are mainly for deer hunting up to 300 yards + and for predation because I have found cougar and bear tracks within 1000 feet of my house. Thank you Corey |
