My 10 year old wants to hunt and want to get my son first started on hunting squirrels and needed suggestion on his first rifle? My son has shot a 20 gauge a few times but the kicked was a bit too much. The 20 gauge is nice but not practical  when going after tree rats. I was thinking a ruger 10/22 22LR is a better choice and chance at getting squirrel with a lot less kick then  a 20 gauge with better accuracy. The 20 gauge is good all around shotgun round and this way I am not worried about bullets flying miles down range.

Just looking for advice and thank you for the invite to ask a question and get solid answers.

I’ll have to admit, I am feeling a bit of remorse for killing my first hunted coyote? I am an older guy in my (late 20’s) and new to hunting, but always wanted to try hunting and get into a new hobby that takes me away from the house and chaos.  My brother-in-law has a ranch and asked me to come over and shoot some coyotes that are becoming a problem. Anyway,  he also has a lot of deer on his property and thought it would be a good all around deal type thing for future deer seasons.

They say hunting coyotes is a hard thing, but it was simple my first time and extremely lucky because it was 7:00 or so in the evening and when I came around the barn to setup there was a coyote digging under a duck cage. I took aim and dropped him on the spot. He was a young coyote and my brother-in-law gutted him and pinned him to a fence post.

I understand Coyotes are varmints and populations are lopsided, but I feel it was a waste of an animal? You can’t eat them and to disgrace them?  I have no problem taking edible game but for some odd reason my first coyotes just did not sit right with me and have an odd feeling of remorse.

Anyone else ever feel this way?

The serial number is xxx798V and with a combination of  letters and number on the left side of the barrel are PDG6. Any idea on what the value of the shotgun is?  Any help would be much appreciated!

More beginner fishing tips needed for my friend and I. We fish our local reservoir (catch/Release) for now, hoping to do some shore/beach fishing when it cools down a bit. Anyway, I’ve have a lightly equipped tackle box with a few lures, weights, bobbers, and a few other stuff or junk Wal-mart thinks you should buy. Now it’s time to string my reel and my rod is a Scout rod with a Shakespear Pro-Am 350 rotating handle? I am confused on what  the gear ratio does? Mine is 3.2:1 and my friend has a 5.2:1.Any tips will be appreciated.

Afternoon all! I’ve been doing a lot of coyote hunting this summer and it’s been poor at best. Due to being on a budget I would like to get ideas for a “handmade” cheep coyote hunting decoy? Being new to coyote hunting I want to increase my odds of “even” seeing a coyote.  After going out a few times this month I have heard them howl in the distance so possibly a decoy will bring them in?…or if you have suggestions on a better strategy it sure would help.

Thank you for the invite and I do have a question for the hunters on this blog. I live in southern Iowa and my family has 200 acres of rural fenced in land with lot’s of old trees and streams. I’ve seen allot of turkeys and deer but we are not hunters. Times are a bit tough and we’ve been approached by a local hunting club interested in having exclusive rights to hunt the land. A simple stright forward question is, we do not know what is an appropriate fee to charge for full hunting privileges? Also, what are the liabilities if someone shots themselves or our farm equipment?

In short, we need a place to start to get the right advice and coverage?

My mother is tired of me bugging her about getting a hunting license and has agreed this year I can get one. My question is where to start after that? I have a good budget for a deer hunting rifle (Remington 700 BDL) and a scope, but I don’t know how to start process on where to hunt? ..Thanks for any advice.
