Not that I am pointing out the obvious in the the post title but it’s true. Let me explain for those who do not understand the importance of hunting because Hunters pay their fees and licenses to the State to gain permission to hunt on public land. The States and Federal Governments have protected and harvested forest land this it manages. Our government spends a lot of our tax dollars to research via our hunting license fees to determine how much wild game can be harvested to better the eco-environment and animal food-chain.

So why is it that so many people hate hunters and the idea of hunting?…lack of information to get a better understanding?

Hypocrisy:

Why can a person comment on anything negative about hunting or hunters but have no problem ordering a hamburger or a steak? These same people refuse to even research on what happens in a slaughter house or how their dinner meat is even produced. I honestly think thy think we hunters are thrill killers!

Real hunters who pay their fees know the importance of harvesting animals therefore they abide by all rules. If they do not they know that there are huge expensive fines to pay. They also know they have a reputation to uphold as a hunter.

My 10 year old wants to hunt and want to get my son first started on hunting squirrels and needed suggestion on his first rifle? My son has shot a 20 gauge a few times but the kicked was a bit too much. The 20 gauge is nice but not practical  when going after tree rats. I was thinking a ruger 10/22 22LR is a better choice and chance at getting squirrel with a lot less kick then  a 20 gauge with better accuracy. The 20 gauge is good all around shotgun round and this way I am not worried about bullets flying miles down range.

Just looking for advice and thank you for the invite to ask a question and get solid answers.

Thank you for the invite and I do have a question for the hunters on this blog. I live in southern Iowa and my family has 200 acres of rural fenced in land with lot’s of old trees and streams. I’ve seen allot of turkeys and deer but we are not hunters. Times are a bit tough and we’ve been approached by a local hunting club interested in having exclusive rights to hunt the land. A simple stright forward question is, we do not know what is an appropriate fee to charge for full hunting privileges? Also, what are the liabilities if someone shots themselves or our farm equipment?

In short, we need a place to start to get the right advice and coverage?

My mother is tired of me bugging her about getting a hunting license and has agreed this year I can get one. My question is where to start after that? I have a good budget for a deer hunting rifle (Remington 700 BDL) and a scope, but I don’t know how to start process on where to hunt? ..Thanks for any advice.

I joined this blog to ask a question and I am not a hunter as to say because I don’t like shooting animals. The problem is I needed to protect my plants, outdoor pets, etc. Sadly, I had to shoot a raccoon this morning with a .22 (head shot behind the ear) and it did not die instantly. I am overrun with raccoons and coyotes  and they are well past becoming a problem. My goal is to be able to dispatch them as quickly and painlessly as possible. Back to my question, where is the best bullet placement for instant kill? I am looking (new to hunting) for shot placement recommendations form front, back, and side angles. The last raccoon I had to shoot was a head shot behind the ear and it still kicked for a minute or two. Finally, I am not a hunter or even enjoy this, I just want to do the correct thing. Also, I need rifle suggestions because this will help me in the future because my fathers .22 is just not enough.

Hello, and thanks for the invite. Alright, I have a question about rifle scopes. There are so many different makes and models and opinions when it comes to the right scope choice. All boast the same things about superior optics, coated lenses, etc… So my question is: What is the true difference from a $200 scope and lets say a $1000 scope?

Why the price variant and how to know the right choice. I just refuse to believe MORE money=Better scope.
