I am looking for a good affordable 12 gauge pump shotgun for deer hunting. Is there a shotgun on the market that can cover multiple uses? Like defense, hunting, sporting? I want to use slugs for deer hunting but I know that slugs would not be a reasonable home defense ammunition. Any suggestion or advice?

Video taping my hunting trips
September 6th, 2010
I’ll pitch in, what is a good camcorder that is durable and easy to use to bring along on my hunting and fish trips? I have my eye on a Sony HC38, but I am unsure of how it’s performance in low- light conditions that are common when in the field hunting. I would prefer the camcorder to take clear video past sundown, but not all the way until it is pitch black outside. My budget is $250-$350. Possible? Suggestions, Arky- Sep 2010
Surplus rifle for hog hunting?
September 5th, 2010
![]() Hey nice blog and thanks for the email. Yes, my question is why should I bring my expensive hunting rifles to the field when hog hunting when I can go out and buy an old Milsurp rifle and not have to worry about it due to being so many nice rifles on the surplus market? I’d like to buy one and keep it in my different rigs just in case I run up on a hog and not have to worry about the rifle getting scratched etc. Which is the best – 8mm mauser / Mossin Nagant / Enfield / other? Looking for suggestions. Thanks- Alex Sep 2010
Another kid asking about hunting.

This question was sent via an email so I thought I’d post it here for some of you to answer.. Admin Hello! I am at the library and we are not allowed to post on blogs, facebook, or forums. I got your blogs invitation email and wanted to ask a few question regarding hunting and fishing. I just turned 16 and I want to start hunting and fishing (more) and have never hunted and only fish maybe once or twice in the summer. My step-father has a new cabin and likes to hunting and fishing alot. He really does not talk about it or provide too much information so and I am looking for information about the different types of guns and equipment for deer hunting. If you could point me to your favorite places on the internet that has a lot of information regarding deer hunting and stuff , that would be great! Also, any advice on firearms for deer hunting and techniques I am all ears. Thanks for all your help ahead of time! James McClendon

Evening all, thank you for the invitation, and yes I do have a question. I first got into hunting going after turkeys and now want to expand to deer hunting and don’t want to use a slug. So, my question is what caliber and rifle is best for hunting whitetail deer and possibly a mule deer? My budget for a new rifle and glass is $600 and will be used primarily used for deer hunting. I’ve been looking at 7mm magnum, . 300 magnum, .308 , and a .243 and what caliber do you think would be best for deer hunting and why?
Thanks all

Cold weather hunting clothes?
August 27th, 2010
Some of the users here might think this question is a bit too early, but heck, anything to do with hunting is always alright to ask. I’ll be deer hunting in Southern Ohio this fall and looking for a set of hunting clothes for the bitter cold that we can get in the fall, it can range from 50-20 or less degrees and want to definitely prepare for the lower temperatures. I’ve learned my lesson last year and was so cold I don’t ever want to go through that AGAIN. I am an avid bow hunter, so anything bulky is out of consideration and my budget is between 200-300$ range. Thanks All for any advice or a direction to go. Gary Aug 2010
