Hey nice blog and thanks for the email. Yes, my question is why should I bring my expensive hunting rifles to the field when hog hunting when I can go out and buy an old Milsurp rifle and not have to worry about it due to being so many nice rifles on the surplus market?  I’d like to buy one and keep it in my different rigs just in case I run up on a hog and not have to worry about the rifle getting scratched etc.

Which is the best – 8mm mauser / Mossin Nagant / Enfield / other?

Looking for suggestions.

Hello all I am new to this blog and thought id ask a question about hunting boar. The main reason I want to start hunting is I live on a ranch in Midland Texas and things economy is a bit tough and I have the opportunity to hunt wild boar/pigs on the land. Free. My main reasoning to get involved in hunting,  primarily for food and my questions is for hunters.  First, what would you bring with you when hog hunting? Second, do I need a hunting license to hunt on private property? What time of year do people normally hunt hog during? Or more so, when NOT to hunt hogs?  Also, any good websites to visit about all the hog/boar hunting equipment/ gear needed? Any other insight would be great.

Finally, as mentioned I am on a budget and just need the bare essentials!

I am primarily a bow hunter, but I am looking to get a rifle to go hog hunting at my ranch. My ranch (West TX) is just overrun with feral hogs and I need a simpler method to dispatch them then your normal stalk bow hunting techniques. There is just not enough time in the day and heat to get their numbers down to a manageable level. I’ve read that the .308 is a great caliber for hog hunting and affordable.  So I need to know what brand and type of gun I should get with a budget of $300? Also if you do not prefer the .308 for hog hunting what would you prefer? Lastly, I need a rifle that will shoot out past 150 yards plus. These hogs have got too smart to sneak up on any closer.

Hey all I got the email to join the blog so here’s my question or let me get to the point do any of you know a place I can go hog hunting for free in Central, Florida? My ultimate hunt (although it’s a bit too hot right now) is a place that you would to fend for yourself in the woods. A good 3-4 day secluded hunt to go on a camping trip with my son in a place in the wild where we can actually fish and hunt. And if you know a place does it allow dogs because I hog hunt with my dogs not guns. If anyone knows a place like that will you show me a map of some sort or give me some kind of way I can find out where its located. I also will pay to hunt if I have to. Money’s not a factor to me. I just wanted to find a place near where I live where me and my son could hunt and fish in the wilderness.

My fathers day hog hunt. So I called Dad and asked him what he wanted for fathers day. He said I want to go catfish fishing or hog hunting. Hit a few spots and didn’t get a bark. It was starting to get daylight and we loaded up to hit another spot before daylight. As we were driving out my dog Milk started going crazy in the box. Stopped the truck and kicked him out and sure enough hes bayed. Sent in the calvery and caught this sow. Nice catching pigs close to the road. Def a hunt I will remember with the pops. She was a fat one. On a side note I got him a book called ‘Working ‘. A sweet book.
