300 win Mag for whitetail deer

I recently purchased a Remington Model 700 for big game hunting (Whitetail deer). My old deer hunting rifle was a 308 that I used for deer season. Anyways, the Remington 700 rifle was on sale for 20% lower cost and just had to buy it. So I went to my local gun-shop and bought a box of 180gr Winchester 300 win Mags and just could not get over the difference compared to my .308. So this leads me to my question. Can the 300 win Mag be used for hunting deer?I see this cartridge is quite big compared to my .308. This caliber must do a lot of damage when it goes through the meet? Should I just stick with hunting deer with my .308? I was hoping to use my new rifle this deer season or is it just too powerful????
Thanks,
Chad

Yes, the 300 Win Mag can be used for deer, think prairie dog and 22-250. Keep your shots over 200 yards or you’ll lose 1/4 to 1/2 the deer to jellied meat with a chest shot. I’m just a bit prejudiced having seen several deer ruined by too much energy. Stick to the 308 and your shoulder will thank you.
with a good handload, the 300 Magnum joins the list of “do it all” rifles. A regular 150 grain hunting bullet, over 50 grains of IMR-4064, 3.340″ cartridge overall length, duplicates a 300 Savage load, easy on the hunter, and proven deer medicine. AND hell yeah you can use that gun for hunting and will enjoy the extra confidence when taking a deer. Even if it’s a bad shot placement your deer will have no chance and nothing will escape!
