Coyote Hunting with 7mm Mag
Alright I have a question. I’ve been invited to go coyote hunting outside of Tulsa Oklahoma next month..I don’t have a varmint rifle but I will be Coyote Hunting with 7mm Mag that I use for deer hunting. I know it’s a bit of an overkill but due to how flat it shoots is a good choice? Is there anything else you would recommend I bring? We are planning to bait them and using spot lights but I read electronic calls really help out and know it’s not really sportsmen like but this is for bounty money. Also, is it true you need to wear lots of camouflage/scent lok clothes for coyotes because all the videos on You Tube show all the hunters wearing them?
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks
Clive

That caliber will destroy the animal and there won’t be a pelt. Coyotes are also just as keen if not more so than deer in terms of smell and have better hearing. Most people can’t even get at 250 yards of one but with deer, you can get to 100. It mainly depends on your area, but out wes, reasonable cover & camo and bait are all you need. The 7MM at less than 100 yards will do horrendous things to coyote, But, it will be very dead!
As mentioned a 7mm Mag would be quite alright for coyotes if you are going for bounty money. I have taken coyote with 12 guage slugs, 12 gauge 3 inch 41 pellet buckshot, with a CZ 527 and Ruger Mini 30 rifles chambered in 7.62×39MM as well as rifles chambered in 30/30. If you’re confident and know your rifle, its cartridges ballistics characteristics and how to shoot then take down that varmint.
In short, what you have is perfect.
